Hello all,
Before I started my trek over to New Zealand, I began taking pictures with my new candy red colored (I tried to get black...) camera.
To start my journey I wanted to be sure that I was prepared for epic adventure by purchasing a good pair of boots, water proof pants, and a water proof insulated jacket. Simply accepting that these new purchases were up to the challenge was not enough however so I performed a few tests....
Water Proofing Test
Packing was a daunting task as I tried to fit everything into one suitcase, a backpack, and a laptop bag. I had to ditch a few things, but in the end everything fit and was under the weight limit.
I tried to take this epic picture...ignore the granny shawl on the chair. As you can see I have my new sleeping designed for temperatures around 20 degrees Fahrenheit, my self inflating mat, waterproof boots, passport, waterproof hiking pants, and a hiking backpack that looks like it is from the 80's (probably because it is).

This was me feeling kind of like Jason Bourne.
This is the international part of O'hare in Chicago. I waited with my parents for several hours before heading through security after spending the night at my sister's in Greys Lake. And so began my study abroad.
Grand Canyon!
The flight to LA was amazing for me. It had been awhile since I had flown so being on a plane was really a lot of fun for me. The guy sitting next to me was also studying abroad only in Australia.
